Alaskan Shooters leave their
mark on the Olympic Training Center
It is always great to see Alaskan
Kids involved in sporting activities and having fun Competing.
It is more fun when they are kids that have been sponsored by the
Alaska Friends of the NRA and they are winning against outside teams
in a big way.

[August, '07] Delta Sophomore, Ryan Dunham-Bender, currently
ranked #5 in the U.S. (NRA Junior 3-Position Smallbore Rifle), won
the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit's (USAMU) Summer Clinic match at Ft.
Benning, GA on Aug. 17. Shooting an 1140 with a 98.7 Standing
Final, Dunham-Bender edged his nearest competitor by 8 points.

He is shown receiving his award from World Champion Thomas Tamas,
USAMU.

[August, '07] Results are now official: the team of Hun Tak -
12th grade, Nate Solomon - 11th grade, Amanda Fisher - 10th grade,
and Ryan Dunham-Bender - 10th grade, have won the National
Scholastic Team titles in both the NRA 3-Position and NRA 4-Position
National Junior Championships. They are coached by Michael Bender,
who earned All-American status five times while he was in college.
The NRA National Junior Championships are fired as "Sectional"
matches in ranges all across America. Delta Sportsman's Association
hosted a 4-Pos. Sectional in January and a 3-Pos. Sectional in early
March, drawing competitors from all over the Interior. The Delta
Rifles won both Sectionals and their targets were sent to NRA
Competitions who published the national results bulletin on their
website. A printed copy of this bulletin will be sent to all
competitors soon.

As a result of their national results, the Delta Rifles will each
receive "special awards" as well as a team award for their efforts.
Not only did their team performance in the NRA 3-Position
competition win the national title, but it also set a new Alaska
High School state record as did the individual score of Ryan
Dunham-Bender.
